Over the last decade, industrialization and its accompanying development in Saudi Arabia have led to steady and progressive growth reflected in its business landscape by way of milestone projects and initiatives. This paradigm shift has reaffirmed the importance of the Industrial sector in the country and the role the government and private sector have in supporting and recognizing this vital sector and helping it achieve strategic and economic objectives set by the Saudi government.
The laudable efforts exerted by the government and key players in Saudi Arabia in support of industrial development, cover several basic scopes including the creation of required infrastructure; construction of industrial cities in various regions of the Kingdom; and continued provision of other industrial support and incentives. The response and cooperation of the private sector with the government’s plans and efforts, has had a tremendous positive impact on the actualization of industrial development and its consequential achievements.
Production of the manufacturing industries in the Kingdom has witnessed steady progress over the past years. As shown by the figure below, total GDP (in constant prices) achieved by the manufacturing industries increased from the level of SR 15 billion in 1975 to more than SR 171 billion at the end of 2013. Also, the growth rate of the manufacturing industries continued to increase throughout this period at an average of 6% per annum, which is considered one of the highest among the other economic sectors.
Owing to the substantial growth achieved by the manufacturing industries during this period, the contribution of the sector in the country’s GDP has increased from 4.1% in 1975 to 13.5% at the end of 2013. In parallel, the contribution of the manufacturing industries sector in the non-oil GDP increased from 7.7% in 1975 to 17% in 2013. These rates show the success of the development plans in pushing forward industrial progress and the fruitful cooperation these plans received from the private sector.
As part of its commitment to Saudi Arabia’s economy and community, Electronic & Electrical Industries Corporation (EEIC), a subsidiary of Abunayyan Holding and a power and automation solutions provider in the Kingdom, has once again upheld its commitment to not only furthering its own growth but that of society as a whole. This has been done by powering the industrial infrastructure of projects that are essential for the country’s economic growth and indigenous innovation.
For EEIC, a small step goes a long way in powering Saudi Arabia’s industrial infrastructure. This was evident in its contribution to a key part of Saudi Arabia’s commitment to energy research – The King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC).
Muntaser Kalahji, EEIC’s Chief Executive Officer, said, “As industrial manufacturers in Saudi Arabia, we try our best to contribute to society in all ways we can, particularly by choosing projects that are game changers. KAPSARC is an impressive initiative and will definitely play a huge role in shaping the country’s energy future. We are honored to be associated with a project of this scope and stature.”
“Research, Rethink, Reshape” – This is the maxim of King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC), an independent, non-profit research institution dedicated to researching energy economics, policy, technology and the environment across all types of energy. The center’s aim is to increase understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by the world today through unbiased and high-caliber research.
Located in Riyadh, the KAPSARC Project, a Saudi Aramco venture, was completed in late 2014 and has 3 elements: the Office Complex, Residential Campus and a 5 MWp Solar Power Plant. Physically built in a network of three-dimensional six-sided units with multiple interconnections, KAPSARC is designed based on the concept of connection and built to merge harmoniously with the surrounding environment and minimize energy and water consumption – two facets that contribute to its overall philosophy.
EEIC, a specialist in providing medium voltage and low voltage power solutions, supplied the Center with a range of solutions including; MV Metal Clad Switchgears, MV Motor Control Centers, LV Switchgears, Motor Control Centers and Outdoor Pad-Mounted Switchgears for the project. EEIC also supplied Ring Main Units, Panel boards as well as LV Motor Control Centers for the Solar Power Plant and Iconic building.
This extensive scope of work has enabled EEIC to support the KAPSARC project by ensuring that only the best quality products and services were incorporated in the overall infrastructure. Furthermore, EEIC’s diversified NEMA-ANSI / IEC and UL certified range allowed its customers to receive customized solutions in line with project requirements.
“We are customer-focused and make it a point to make sure that our products and services are such that they align with the requirements presented to us at the start of our dealing. The same applies to the KAPSARC project and we hope to work again on similar opportunities in the future,” Muntaser Kalahji concluded.
